Has Become Useless
2fartocryNovember 19, 2013
- Pros
- Allows for more playback coverage especially for MKV, and other higher end video and audio codecs that windows does not play natively. Also installs, Media Player Classic Home Cinema's latest version depending on the build.
- Cons
- Does not work on platforms other than Windows. Installs out of date codecs even in newer builds, and does not insure universal playback.
- Summary
- Codec pack was good until the 2012 releases now it is essentially junk.I had trouble on a netbook that I use to watch video files when I'm on the go. After installing the first 2012 build I started having problems with opening DVD files even though I could in previous versions. Other times I was also getting no video but clearly hearing the audio for some files or I would receive choppy audio playback. Ultimately I figured that the newest CCCP builds weren't compatible with my netbook, and reverted to a previous build that worked (even though I still could not have universal access to newer video and audio files). At one point I installed zoom player on my best computer as an alternative video player to Media Player Classic Home Cinema, but never really used it. Down the road, I had problems with a 2013 build of CCCP on my newest computer. I knew it was odd to have problems on a nearly new and very good computer so I looked for answers. Eventually I found that Zoom Player had an install center with their program which monitored codecs already installed on a system. The install center also checks for updates or if there were any uninstalled codecs which still needed to be installed. When I opened the install center, I found that most of the codecs CCCP installed were out of date. Furthermore, CCCP did not install codecs for many popular codecs such as FLAC which Zoom Player's install center was able to add for me. Sure enough, once I did this same thing on my netbook, which I thought did not have the hardware for newer CCCP builds, I found that I was now able to play video and audio files I was having a hard time with previously. In the end I've uninstalled CCCP but downloaded the standalone version of Media Player Classic Home Cinema as I was happy with the player. I'm very disappointed with CCCP as it was not only my go to codec pack since 2008 but it was also something I could and would always recommend to others. Now that I know it does not install everything or allow for universal playback I just can't use it anymore and I no longer recommend this codec pack. Now I just install both Media Player Classic and Zoom Player, and then use Zoom Player's install center to monitor the codecs installed on my computer to keep my system updated.2/5. I like Media Player Classic Home Cinema but if it had not been included this review would have been a 1/5.

- Pros
- The only pros here, are what it claims to do, cause that sounds pretty good, actually, too good to be true.
- Cons
- Would not recommend to anyone at all...maybe my worst enemies.
- Summary
- Problems after the installation, corrupted my video driver, lost my DVD/CD-RW icon and drivers and even corrupted my DirectX files. Had to do System Restore. Was running Windows XP with latest Microsoft updates. Also installed it onto other comp running Windows Vista with latest updates installed. Was told to install an additional DirectX component, checked CCCP wiki page for more info and found it was documented, so installed it. It corrupted the R300 program and also further corrupted the installed video driver, completely stopping the video driver's UI program. Had to also do System Restore. Contacted Microsoft about problem, have recieved reply from tech.

Updated on Oct 3, 2010
Hope to one day, finally be able to use this program, I'll just have to tough it out with what works for now. Kudos to you, CCCP folks.

Great codec pack
pl4smanJanuary 21, 2010
- Pros
- Has codecs for basically any kind of file you may need to watch. Includes media player classic which is also pretty great.
- Cons
- The settings are pretty complicated for even an advanced user. Tons of options.Better when it included both media player classic and vlc because then there truly was not anything you couldn't play.
